TRANSPORTATION, DISTRIBUTION & LOGISTICS

Auto Service Technology – It’s hot in Florida in the summer so it is the perfect time to get the students engaged and eager to learn how a vehicle’s AC system works. This week they learned the tools and procedures needed to work on AC as well as how to diagnose a malfunctioning ac system.

Adult Basic Education and GED Prep – A busy week for students in Adult Education this week  as a record number of students took their TABE tests and made big LCP gains. Many students have completed their TABE requirements and have moved into GED prep.

Students and instructors missed Mr. Seidner this week due to his assignment off campus.  Correspondence was flying back and forth to get students practicing and set up for their end of the year Language TABE retesting.  Most students made gains and will receive their LCP’s and certificates!

The GED classroom has fewer and fewer students as we get to the end of the year.  However, this is a good thing because students are passing the GED test!

On the reading front, students pulled from their previously learned skills and ventured into a unit on dystopian books: classical and modern. As a group, they chose one classic title and one modern title and did a compare/contrast. Are you familiar with 1984? Fahrenheit 451? Brave New World? How about Hunger Games? Maze Runner? Divergent? Our Adult Ed students are! And they understand the connection from the books to social awareness and political change.

Critical thinking and strategy skills were used to the further in a writing exercise of each student’s description of the ‘perfect world.’ No one was shocked that, in the end, all had the same foundational elements in common: end to violence, war, and discrimination and a place of peace, happiness, and fulfilling careers. And, if course…… lots of butterflies, ocean breezes, and happy thoughts.
