Digital Design 1 students filled an entire white board with types of companies that hire graphic designers! Now they’re on assignment to research actual company names within driving distance of Eustis. It makes their design training come to life!
Business, Management & Administration
Several of our business students helped to fill the streets of downtown Eustis for the 111th George Washington Festival. The parade, which included a Lake Tech entry, was lots of fun for all.
In the classroom our students are working on a variety of activities including advanced Word functions such as creating forms and mail merges and learning to plan and develop all types of business letters and memos.
Our class continues to support the United Way’s VITA program to help Lake County residents complete their income taxes.

Law, Public Safety & Security
Lake Technical Center’s Fire Academy, in partnership with Lake County and the City of Tavares, proudly announces its fourth annual Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge, April 13, 2013. The event is free to the public. Come watch America’s heroes in action! Opening Ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m., and the competitions immediately following. According to Ron Williams, Lake Tech Fire Academy Director, “The real idea behind the event is to promote the physical fitness of our firefighters and for the public to see what it takes to be firefighter.”
On Saturday, there will be a free Kid’s Firefighter Combat Challenge that targets youths, ages 4 to 11, and is a miniaturized version of its adult counterpart. The Kid’s Challenge runs from 10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and includes a tunnel, hammer-slide, and fire hose drag. This is an exciting adventure for any child who wants to put on fire gear and squirt a real fire hose!

The Law Enforcement Recruits have been studying the Legal portion of the curriculum this week and all passed as expected. The Corrections Recruits are in the Communications block of the curriculum.
Adult Education & Career Pathways
After reading a newspaper article about shortages in food for area families in need, the Adult Ed Department collected non-perishable food items to donate to a local food pantry. Volunteers picked up the food on Friday and were very appreciative. Just another way that our students demonstrate their concern for and participation in our community.
We had another busy week in the GED/AAAE classroom. A big THANKS TO Ms. Veremakis who came and spoke to the students about all the programs in the health field at Lake Tech. The students had lots of interest and lots of great questions! Several of our AAAE students got their needed scores and are back full-time in their CTE programs. After collecting food items for the food bank, we did some statistics (mean, median, mode) using the food item tally sheet. We have a great reading group working with Mrs. Avelli working on fluency, comprehension, and intonation. Also, worked on poetry, vocabulary, skills for GED and TABE success!
