Experts from the construction industry will meet at Lake Tech on November 13 to discuss what is needed for an entry level employee in the construction industry. GED instructor Christina Grain is spearheading the project for Lake Tech.
Health Sciences
Medical Assisting – The students celebrated Medical Assistant Week with a variety of events. In addition to dressing up and enjoying some great food, the class had several guest speakers. On Monday, Maria Wieglemann, President of the Central Florida Chapter of the Florida Society of Medical Assistants, discussed the career opportunities in this field. On Tuesday, Sonya Rosenglick presented on office party manners and on Thursday Dr. Sherie Lindamood shared information about personality types.

Human Services
Cosmetology – Freshman students in the Cosmetology program practiced 90 degree haircuts and the advanced students practiced hair color service “color melts” this week. For fun, they dressed as Geeks and raised money for SkillsUSA.
Information Technology
Computer Systems & Information Technology – The new CSIT program is enrolling students now for an October 27 start date. Students will be prepared for A+, Net+ and Security+ certifications.
Law & Public Safety
Law Enforcement – The Law Enforcement students won the PT Challenge against the Fire Fighting students. This “friendly” challenge is held in the fall and spring and allows the students to test their physical fitness skills. After the challenge was over, all the students enjoyed a cookout together as a team.
Transportation, Distribution & Logistics
Auto Service Technology – The Auto Service Technology students had a productive week learning about batteries and their testing procedures as well as light duty diesel engine operation and two stroke engines and their function. In the pictures, we see one of our students working on a two stroke mini four wheeler, he is working hard trying to get it running before the end of the day.
Adult Education
ESOL – Students in the ESOL program used their creative skills to design a project using nouns, verbs and adjectives to describe themselves. The projects were posted on the board for everyone to enjoy.
On Friday, the ESOL instructors spent time perfecting their curriculum ensuring it was Career and College ready!
Professional Development
Instructors from the Health Science, EMS, and Cosmetology programs spent the morning learning the Anatomy in Clay. Using skeletons, clay, and a variety of cutting tools, students will build body systems – layer upon layer – onto customized, scale human models. This kinesthetic learning process allows students to gain a deep understanding of how the body systems are interconnected in form and function.
