Accounting Operations
Administrative Office Specialist
The SkillsUSA team members consisting of Ariel Smallwood, LaQuinta Jones (Administrative Office Specialist), and Courtney Robbins (Accounting Operations) were congratulated as medal winners at this week’s skills meeting. Ariel Smallwood placed gold, LaQuinta Jones placed silver, and Courtney Robbins placed bronze. Ariel Smallwood will be representing the Lake Tech team at the state competition in April. Needless to say we are proud of our team!
Our Accounting Operations student Taylor Gordon had an exciting job shadowing opportunity this week. She was the sole Account Representative of Farm and Pet for Florida meeting with their distributor, Purina Feeds. She collaborated with a fantastic team of leaders and sales coaches across America. This was an excellent opportunity for Ms. Gordon to showcase her skills and hopefully soon land a career in the field.
Our newest student Savanna Greenlee celebrated her birthday with us this Monday, March 2nd. We were so excited to surprise her by decorating her desk!
The new student leaders consisting of Destiny Roberts, Taylor Gordon, and Sandrea Ousley, will now be managing Lake Tech’s School Supply Store – Kiosk. Starting the week of March 9th, the Kiosk will permanently be located in the Admissions Office. Make sure to stop by to say “hi” and look at the new merchandise available to sell.

Medical Assisting
The Medical Assisting students were working on clinical assisting skills this week. They practiced visual acuity, application therapies, and crutch gaits.
Part-Time Practical Nursing
Last Monday, the part-time Practical Nursing students performed their “Growth and Development” skits, and we had many laughs. We also were able to learn multiple skills and prepare for this weekend where it will be the students’ third day doing medication pass. This Monday the students will be taking the “Growth and Development” exam.

CNC Production Specialist
We had a good week as parts were designed, programmed, and machined on the CNC lathe. A couple of tour groups came through and enjoyed seeing the machines in action. Guest machinist, Donnie Flowers shared some tips and tricks with the senior students.

Fire Fighter Completion Ceremony
On March 5, 21 students completed the Fire Fighting portion of the Fire Fighter/EMT Combo program. Special congratulations to Kyle Watts who won the “Brotherhood Award”, to Joshua Baker for the second highest GPA in the class (96%), and to Benjamin Johnson for earning a 99% GPA!
Next step is the EMT class on the main campus. Four of the students in the class already had their EMT certificate, so they are ready for employment once they pass their state exam!

Automotive Service Technology
The Automotive Service Technology students have been working hard on their truck project and are getting their cab bolted on to the chassis.
ADULT EDUCATION
ESOL
We are halfway through the spring semester, and in our ESOL classroom, our students are getting used to communicating in English, and having fun with it, too! We do this daily in group activities and by engaging our students individually. Our conversational activities are both scripted and unscripted. It is wonderful to see how friendships have formed in the classroom and to overhear our students speaking to each other in English on their own. In addition to lots of speaking opportunities, out students have a weekly or bi-weekly grammar skill, a reading series, a shared set of classroom books, a weekly writing prompt, as well as special projects throughout the semester. We also incorporate technology through lessons twice weekly on Schoology, which our students can also access from home. In addition to that, we have a weekly Job Skills/Career Development class, and a Civics class as well. It’s wonderful to see how English is not just a language, but a commonality through which friendships are formed by people from all over the world.
