Adult Education Student of the Year Award
Lake Technical College’s Adult Education student Josh Thompson was recognized Friday October 4th at the Adult and Community Educators of Florida Conference Awards Luncheon.
Josh was nominated by his instructor Ms. Colleen Avelli and the Adult Education Coordinator Mr. Art Seidner. Josh was chosen out of a pool of nominees from GED programs all over the state of Florida. Assistant Director DeAnna Thomas, Program Coordinator Art Seidner, Adult Education instructors, Pam Netherton, Kathy Roberts, Kathy Girard, and Laura Ross were all at the awards luncheon to show their support for their outstanding student.
Josh participated in Lake Tech’s Pathway Plus Program (P3) in which students can earn their state of Florida high school diploma and complete a career program simultaneously. Lake Tech offers the P3 Program within the Air conditioning, Refrigeration and Heating Technology programs. When asked about Josh’s achievements, Mr. Seidner stated “Joshua Thompson came to Lake Technical College as a 16 year old kid – freckles, braces, ‘kinda goofy,’ unsure of himself and no thoughts of a career. He left us as a mature and responsible, young man, fully-equipped with his high school diploma and certificate in both Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Heating Technology 1 and 2. He accomplished his goals and this young kid became a man. His smile is still broad, and his personality is still infectious. He has touched us all at Lake Tech in a profound way – one that will stay with us long after he has gone out and made the world a better place.”
