The Culinary students had a chance to carve pumpkins this week. They carved them at home and then brought them in for display in the B-Building Hallway.

Sixteen firefighters from around the Central Florida completed Truck Company Ops and Trench Rescue last week.
MANUFACTURING
Congratulations to Zachary Teaster from the CNC Production Specialist program and Austin Huitt from the Welding program! They are the recipients of the Henry Graeber MACF Memorial Scholarship offered through the Manufacturers Association of Central Florida.
CNC graduate, Chris Stafford, returned to Lake Tech to share his experiences with the current students. Chris began working for Ballisitic Advantage after graduation and is still working there today.

ESOL
Autumn is here, and our students have had a great time celebrating the season! For Halloween, they came to class wearing fun and festive costumes, and by Democratic vote, a winner was selected. We enjoyed learning seasonal vocabulary by playing Halloween Pictionary, and learned that sometimes words are easier to comprehend than drawings!
As far as academics, we have been practicing how to use either, neither, too, and so in conversation to express agreement/disagreement. This is quite a challenging skill! Our advanced students have been practicing their phrasal verbs (verb + preposition). In English, there are hundreds of them, and they are so often used instead of precise verbs. For example, we almost always use the phrasal verb “figure out” instead of “solve,” or “bring back” instead of “return.” Phrasal verbs are another difficult component of learning English, but our students had been doing a great job mastering them. Our beginning English speakers have been working on the present tense and giving directions. They have had some interesting lessons using city maps.
In our ESOL class, we try to read, write, listen, and especially speak in English every day. Something fun that we’ve done recently to improve listening comprehension is to listen to a popular song and then try to comprehend the lyrics. Our students have really enjoyed this. So far we’ve learned songs from Adele and John Legend, and it’s been wonderful to hear everyone singing along!
