HEALTH SCIENCES

EMS

Paramedic students are immersed in the second module of their program – Anatomy & Physiology. This module will help students build a foundation of knowledge; applying and connecting that knowledge to various injuries and illness and how a change in one body system affects others.

Instructor Eric Harper provides additional insight for paramedic student Nicholas Gutschick.

HOSPITALITY & TOURISM

Professional Culinary Arts & Hospitality

Baking and Pastry Arts

Both programs enjoyed showing off their talents to the students who attended the TechXpo. Lake Tech Lola even joined in on the fun (and showed up on a watermelon)!

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Enterprise Desktop and Mobile Support

Applied Cybersecurity

This week, Enterprise students have been completing their final projects and preparing for their industry certifications, while others have been continuing working on the coursework. Three students took advantage of a great opportunity to job shadow and assist IT technicians at Advent Health (Tavares) with setting up computer stations within the new addition. They have already been invited back to assist next week as well.

MANUFACTURING

CNC Production Specialist

Students continue to complete and get hired in the field. We are receiving great feedback from employers who have recently hired our students. As students are getting closer to their end date, they are venturing off in to 3-D surfacing on the new Haas machining center.

TRANSPORTATION & LOGISTICS

Diesel Technology Technician

This week we had one of students (Joseph Rains) compete at Skills USA State competition in Pensacola and said it was a great experience for him and he learned a lot so he will know what to study for next year’s competition.

Caleb Hall, a new student to the program. He started to disassemble his first engine ever and was amazed by the amount of technical knowledge that is required to rebuild a diesel engine.

Other students learned how to remove a differential from a semi-truck, completely disassemble it and how hard it is to reinstall it under a truck.

ADULT EDUCATION

Adult Basic Education (GED prep and ABE)

ESOL

Adult Education students wrapped up their social studies unit by creating a time-line of ‘influential events that have shaped the U.S. and the world.’ Students brainstormed and came up with a list of events they felt were influential in shaping the U.S. and the world today. Then, they formed group, a skill that employers stress employees need (and one that many of our students struggle with) to create a one page time-line of an event from the list. Each group was instructed to find the basic facts of the event and include a hand-drawn or printed image to illustrate the event. Finally, students arranged events in date order, glued them onto the paper, which we hung along our classroom wall. Now, they have a ‘running time-line of events’ to refer back to when thinking of the Cold War or the Gulf War and which event came first and how each may have influenced the next. Students were engaged with the research and hands-on learning, and we found a few who were really into history and some who are quite creative and artistic.
