Lake Technical College, the Fire Chief Association of the State of Florida, and the City of Clermont Fire Department are delighted to co-host the 2017 Spring Cadet Weekend on April 21-22. Fire Cadets, ranging in age from 14 to 18, from all over the State will come to Lake Technical College’s Institute of Public Safety campus in Tavares for an exciting training experience. During the event, the cadets will learn various fire protocols to include forceful entry, repelling, ladder bail out, search and rescue, and arson investigation.
This annual event would not be possible without the many sponsors who support the Fire Cadet program. This year’s sponsors include Life Line Fire, Uncle Kenny’s BBQ, Star & Shield Insurance, L.V. Solutions, and Global Fireproof Solutions. Chris Birchfield, CEO of Global Fireproof Solutions, Inc., said “We are proud to support the FFCA Fire Cadet Program because it is so important for our youth to experience real-world, hands-on, life-saving education. We appreciate that in such a fast-paced world, these partners take the time to continue to help educate our youth, which will in return keep our community safer and help save lives.”
Many cadets continue their training formally through a fire academy when they turn eighteen. For those interested in pursuing a career as a fire fighter, Lake Technical College offers a full Fire Fighter/EMT program. The next session starts on June 6, 2017. Applications are being accepted now. Interested students can contact the Admissions office for more information, 352.589.2250.
