Academic Affairs

Business Management & Administration
Accounting Operations, Administrative Office Specialist – This week we had people coming and going.  On the ”coming” side we had two Accounting Operations graduates return to campus to say hello and to share some of their work experiences with the class.  In the first picture, Brinda Ruehlen shares her experiences and answering questions. Brinda is now employed in the accounting department at Massey.  Also, newly graduated and hired, Jessica Straub returned to talk about her new accounting position at AG3 Inc.  It was great seeing them both.

On the “going” side, Joey Williams joined our growing number of graduates.  She just completed her requirements for the Accounting Operations program.  Joey is a dual enrolled student who is very active at her high school.  Congratulations Joey!

We also want to recognize our Student of the Month, Karen Horton.  Karen is an Accounting Operations student.  In addition to working on the weekends, she is a faithful fan of her son’s baseball team as she follows the team all around the Central Florida area.   Congratulations Karen!

Human Services
Cosmetology – The Freshman showcased their knowledge and creativity with the Mani/Pedi Flip class. They were split into small groups and given a week to research their chosen topic, which they then presented to us and the other students in lecture format. Some were very creative including video, PowerPoint, word searches, and “Family Fued” Style quizzing! It was a great opportunity to engage them and see what they are retaining.

The Student of the Month was announced for our department and Sydney Glen, AM Cosmetology, was chosen and awarded this honor. She was presented her certificate by Mrs. Stephan, Mrs. Thomas, and Mrs. Frazier.

Some of our beginning students already have some background in this amazing industry. Tananjala showed off her amazing sew-in extensions. Check out the before and after.

We, in Cosmetology, are very excited about our “Pink Hair” for Breast Cancer Awareness. Keratin fusion hair extensions can be purchased and attached to existing hair for a $10.00 donation. Proceeds will go to the local American Cancer Society.

We have two presentations for the students this week so that they may receive some additional knowledge and training in their field. John Amico Color will present to the Cosmetology Students on Monday 10/13, and Marggie Harris will present Skincare and Makeup to the Facial Specialty students on Wednesday 10/15. These are the first two in a list of outside community education that we have planned for our students.

At the end of the day, we here in Cosmo like to work hard and play hard, but we love what we do and always look good doing it!
