DUAL ENROLLMENT
What is dual enrollment? Dual enrollment allows eligible public, private or home education high school students to take postsecondary courses which apply as credits toward both a high school diploma and an adult career certificate. Tuition is waived for dual-enrolled students. Enrollment in postsecondary programs is on a space-available basis.

Who is eligible to participate in dual enrollment? Students attending a Lake County public high school or a Florida private secondary school, as defined and regulated by State statute, are eligible to participate if they meet other required criteria. Eligible home education high school students who are registered with Lake County Schools may also participate.

What are the steps to enrolling? Students follow various steps to enroll based on the type of secondary school they are attending. The following describes procedures for each category:

Florida public secondary school
Students attending a public high school in Lake County must be at least 16 years of age, be in the 11th or 12th grade, have at least a 2.0 GPA, have a viable vocational goal, and demonstrate readiness for career-level coursework. Students are also strongly encouraged to have passed FCAT. The steps to enrolling are as follows:
  1. Meet with the high school guidance counselor.
  2. Complete a dual enrollment application. The high school guidance counselor must complete the section on page two and sign. Parents must also sign the application.
  3. Take the Test of Adult Basic Education (T.A.B.E.). Call (352) 589-2250 for dates and times. A government issued I.D., such as a Florida Drivers License, is required along with the completed application. There is no charge for the test. Scores must be within two grade levels of State mandated exit requirements.
  4. Meet with a Lake Technical Center counselor to discuss T.A.B.E. results and program interests.
  5. Take the CareerScope if recommended by a counselor.
  6. Visit the program and meet the instructor.
  7. Register for class and pay any applicable fees.

Florida private secondary school
Students enrolled in private schools as defined by and meeting the curriculum
pursuant to State statute may be eligible for dual enrollment. In addition the school must be registered with the Florida Department of Education. Students meeting these criteria must follow these steps in order to enroll:
  1. Meet with a high school representative.
  2. Complete a dual enrollment application (available from LTC). A high school representative must complete the section on page two and sign. Parents must also sign the application.
  3. Take the T.A.B.E. Call (352) 589-2250 for dates and times. A government issued I.D., such as a Florida Drivers License, is required along with the completed application. There is no charge for the test. Scores must be within two grade levels of State mandated exit requirements.
  4. Meet with a Lake Technical Center counselor to discuss T.A.B.E. results and program interests.

Are there any fees involved? Tuition and registration fees for dual enrollment students are waived. Books are provided to students attending public secondary schools. Students attending private schools or home education must purchase books as per State statute. Other fees assessed may include tool deposit, supply kit, or insurance. Students may also need to purchase uniforms.

When can a dual enrollment student begin? Start dates are based on several factors. Space availability and program openings are decisions made by Lake Technical Center. Public secondary students should coordinate enrollment with the high school semester start dates (four times per year). Private school students and home education students may begin with the approval of the home secondary school or parents, respectively.

What programs qualify for dual enrollment? Most of the non-licensing programs at LTC qualify for dual enrollment. They include:
