APPLIED WELDING TECHNOLOGY

1170 hour program with training provided in basic and advanced arc, micro wire, heliarc, oxyacetylene and pipe welding to construct, erect, install, and repair all types of metal fabrication, machine frames, pipe lines, and pressure tanks. It is recommended that students purchase welding equipment kits for approximately $100. AUTOMOTIVE COLLISION REPAIR & REFINISHING

1400 hour program that utilizes classroom and hands-on learning activities to train individuals in all aspects of automotive collision damage repair. Some of the skills taught are: metal straightening, plastic repair, panel and structural component replacement, use of mechanical systems, hydraulic straightening equipment, and MIG and resistance welding. Refinishing training consists of proper spray gun handling techniques, surface preparation and application of paint products for repairs ranging from overall refinishing to minor spot repairs, including base coat/clear coat finishes. AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE TECHNOLOGY

1800 hour program designed to prepare a student for an entry-level job in the automotive field. This is done through diagnosis and repair of an automobile. This program centers on electronically-controlled systems of the automobile. 1500 hour program emphasizing skill development and including concepts in general housekeeping operations; stock, soup, and sauce preparation; meat, poultry, fish and seafood preparation; dairy, egg, and other farinaceous preparation; salad, buffet foods, beverage, and related food preparation; bakery goods and desserts; dining room operations; planning, organizing, and implementing work; employability; and entrepreneurship. COMMERCIAL FOODS/CULINARY ARTS APPRENTICESHIP
is sponsored by the American Culinary Federation Educational Institute in cooperation with local ACF chapters, and is the only national apprenticeship-training program for cooks. Apprentices complete 6000 hours of on-the-job training as well as theory courses, usually over a three-year period. The successful graduate is eligible to apply for Certified Cook. Class offered on Monday evening. Open Entry.

DRAFTING

1900 hour program with emphasis on the study and use of drafting tools, methods, techniques, mathematics, and data research required to produce detail and assembly drawings for manufacturing and construction. GROOMING AND SALON SERVICES

Full Specialty Cosmetology
1200 hour program. Training and skills development in all areas of hairstyling include: haircutting, perming, hair-coloring, and hair-relaxing; skin care, including the machine facial; make-up application; sculptured nails, manicuring, and pedicuring; and salon management. Also included are the rules, regulations, and ethics of practice according to Florida law and a board-approved AIDS course. Completing students must pass the State Board Examination before being licensed as a Cosmetologist. Facial Specialty
The 260 hour Facial Specialty program includes skin care, hair removal, make-up, salon management, and rules and regulations according to Florida law. NEW!

Lake Technical Center is starting a new 20 hour a week evening full-cosmetology class in addition to the existing day program and the evening nails specialty and facial specialty programs. Classes begin February 4, 2008, and will be held on the main campus in Eustis. Interested individuals should immediately begin the registration and financial aid application processes. Financial aid may be available for those who qualify. This program is approved for VA. Eligible veterans may be certified through the Financial Aid Office.

The 1200-hour cosmetology program includes instruction in hair, nails and facials and graduates are entitled to take the state licensure exam. Lake Tech cosmetology graduates currently have over a 95% pass rate on the state licensure exam.

HEAVY DUTY TRUCK AND BUS, DIESEL MECHANICS

1680 hour program designed to prepare a student for a career in diesel mechanics. Students learn to diagnose problems and perform maintenance on diesel trucks and busses. Some of the skills taught are: basic hand and power tools, basic welding, principles of diesel engine operations, diesel sub-systems functions and troubleshooting, how to test and troubleshoot electrical problems, electrical and engine power distribution, the fundamentals of diesel engines and how they operate, transmission repair, basic operating hydraulic systems, and using computer software to gather information about equipment.
