ADMISSION PROCEDURE
CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS
1. Complete an admissions application for certificate programs. Some programs require additional applications and/or paperwork. Please see the particular program of interest for specific requirements.
For dual enrollment of high school students, applicants must be sixteen years old and in the 11th grade or above to enter as a dual-enrolled high school student and possess the desire to learn in an adult environment. The application must be signed by a parent and the high school section completed by a counselor or occupational specialist (high school students only).
2. Take the TABE evaluation. (A.A., A.S., A.A.S., B.A. & B.S. degreed persons exempt.) There is a $20.00 charge for administration and evaluation of the TABE for anyone entering a program at Lake Technical Center. Persons not possessing a high school diploma or its equivalent and interested in receiving financial aid must take the Wonderlic. Summer 2010 TABE schedule.
3. Residency status: Florida Statutes outlines parameters for establishing residency for tuition purposes in the State of Florida’s public higher education institutions. The statute allows U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents to be classified as a Florida resident, for tuition purposes, if the applicant, or dependent applicant’s parent/legal guardian, has been a legal resident of the State for at least 12 months preceding the first day of classes of the term for which Florida residency is sought. Please complete the residency form and submit with the application. This does not apply to dual-enrolled students. For additional information, see Guidelines on Florida Residency for Tuition Purposes.
For additional admissions information, please see our catalog.
CONTINUING WORKFORCE EDUCATION
Short-term, part-time courses designed to meet the needs of industry and the community are offered through evening and weekend vocational courses. Some classes are also available during daytime hours. Students enroll to supplement their present job skills or to explore a new career. These courses operate weekly, both on and off campus. General information about each course is provided in the Admissions Office. See program schedule for class listing and times.
To register for a Continuing Workforce Education class, the student completes a Continuing Workforce Education registration form and pays the required tuition. (It is recommended that the student register and pay for the class as far in advance of the class start date as possible as seating is limited.) Continuing Workforce Education classes are individually priced and may include a lab fee.
Students may register in person, have someone register for them, or register by mail by returning a completed registration form along with a check or money order (no cash). Forms may also be acquired by having them faxed or mailed. Students are not considered registered and their seat in the class secured until they make payment in the form of cash, check, money order, Discover, MasterCard, Visa, voucher or billing letter from a business or agency. A cashier is available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., and Monday and Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. During peak registration time call 589.2250 for current office hours.
TABE (TEST OF ADULT BASIC EDUCATION)
All applicants for Workforce Education (job preparatory) classes must take a state-mandated Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) prior to enrollment. The TABE is given at 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Monday and Thursday. No appointment is necessary; however, interested parties should call 352.589.2250 the day before to verify the testing schedule. Students must check-in, in the front lobby, for testing at least 15 minutes prior to test time. The fee for those students entering a Workforce Education Program is $20. Picture identification, such as a driver's license, is required. The TABE takes approximately 2.0 hours. Scores may be obtained from a guidance counselor. If the test indicates a need for remediation, the applicant will be referred for assistance. Children may not be brought to the testing area.
For additional TABE information, please see the TABE section of our catalog.
